We use our cable cutters in a saltwater environment and noticed that the blades can become rusty. What can we do to avoid this?
-
Cable cutter blades are made of steel and it is normal that they can rust when in a humid or wet environment, especially one with saltwater. To reduce rusting, the blades should be dried and greased after every use.
-
Do you have a comparative study showing the cutting rate between manual pruning shears and electric pruning shears?
-
FELCO does not have a comparative study regarding the cutting rate between manual pruning shears and FELCOtronic pruning shears. We can however assure that the cutting rate is similar between the two models. However, it is far more challenging and fatiguing to cut as many hours in a row with a manual shear as with an electric one.

How can I re-sharpen the blade of my FELCO 600 saw?
-
It is not possible to re-sharpen the blades of our saws (FELCO 600, FELCO 621, FELCO 611, FELCO 630, FELCO 640) as this would reduce their hardness.
If the blade does not cut in a clean way anymore it is necessary to change it. All FELCO saws have replacement blades available.

1) Clean the blade with a dry cloth after each working day.

Is it possible to sharpen the blade of cable cutters? If yes, with what?
-
In general it is not necessary to sharpen cable cutter blades. If the user cuts a high number of spring steel wires, one of the hardest materials, it is recommended to sharpen the cable cutter blades after 500 cuts. The FELCO 902, FELCO 903 or FELCO 904 should be used.

It is impossible to open the thumb catch of my new pruning shears. What can I do?
-
During transportation, pruning shears can receive a shock which can jam the thumb catch. Try to unblock it with the correct sized screwdriver or return the tool to our agent for an exchange.
-
My pruning shears are difficult to open as the thumb catch too tight. What can I do?
-
Please squeeze the two handles together in your hand, then with your other hand you should be able to open easily the thumb catch. After some use the thumb catch should be easier to open, however if it continues to be difficult you can slightly loosen the thumb catch with a socket wrench #7 or the FELCO adjustment key.

The thumb catch of my Pruner FELCO 4 closes while pruning. What can be done to fix this?
-
As the thumb catch of the FELCO 4 can be riveted, you will need to hit the riveted thumb catch directly with a hard-rubberized hammer. But please be careful not to use too much force as too much impact can also jam the thumb catch. Other FELCO 4 thumb catches that are screwed in will just need to be re-screwed in or changed for a new thumb catch. Please see the “how to change a thumb catch video” on the official FELCO tools YouTube channel.
-
What can be done to avoid the thumb catch closing while pruning?
-
Following points could create this effect:
- Incorrect screw adjustment of the thumb catch.
- The spring (ref. 2/13) under the thumb catch is damaged or missing or was assembled on the wrong side during a service.
The spring 2/13 has to be replaced if it is damaged or missing.
-
What differentiates the FELCO 2 and FELCO 8 pruning shears?
-
The difference between FELCO 2 and FELCO 8 does come from the quality of the tool or in the usage. The handles of the FELCO 8 are more ergonomic as the cutting head offset to naturally extend the forearm and reduce potential muscle strain. Although the FELCO 8 is designed to be more ergonomic, we recommend users to try both models in their hand to determine which model best suits their hands and pruning needs. Each FELCO model is different and it is difficult to recommend FELCO pruning shears without trying them to understand how they fit in the hand, what type and diameter of material will be cut and the average amount of use.
-
Which spare blade can be used on a FELCO 1?
